Career Cooking Class Conducts Cookie
Workshop |
|
High School students from Mrs. Kimberli McCullough's Career Cooking class conducted a cookie workshop unit for Mrs. Johnson’s, first grade class. The first graders were learning about measurements, weights and volume in their class.
The 21 students came over to the high school to interact with the Career Cooking students and create 18 dozen cookies. The cookies were dispersed into May Day baskets where the first grade students delivered them to the Resthome.
Mrs. McCullough was talking to Mrs. Linda Johnson and the idea came up to have the Culinary Art Students teach the first graders. The first graders learned baking, temperature, measuring, how to follow recipies, using an apron, mixing, and sanitation while cooking. The High School Students changed roles breifly and learned teaching skills to bring cooking to the first graders level and keep everything basic.
"The little kids are great and they were easily impressed by the smallest things- like the blender going around." said high school student Whitney Moore.
When
asked what they got out of the experience of teaching the first graders, Tyrell
Johnson jokingly said, "It was fun, enjoyed it. I like teaching
them how to make a mess." I am sure that the kids looked up to
Tyrell!
